This piece depicts the dramatic sunrise over the red earth at Uluru. Acknowledging the deeply sacred connection to country by the traditional owners of the Uluru & Kata Tjuta lands, the Anangu people, Abbey returned from her trip incredibly moved by the spirit of the people and the land. This piece was painted by memory & intuition - inspired by the feeling of witnessing the sunrise light up the cloudless sky and illuminating the native flora. the majority of the work is a gradient of cobalt blue to red dust, to represent the vast morning sky. The red earth & flora takes up the lower portion of the work as if you are looking into the horizon surrounded by the greenery - more prominent in the area as it was after a period of unusually high rainfall.
