Created for my second solo exhibition at the National Arboretum Canberra, this large acrylic painting is a contemporary impressionist “story quilt” of place, memory and resilience. A patchwork of colour and pattern sits like a map of the Arboretum’s forests, with native birdlife moving through open sky and sweeping air. Along the lower edge, fire and dark silhouettes acknowledge the bushfire reality that has shaped our landscape — while the vivid greens and light speak to renewal and the strength of community. There is also a hand-painted quote nestled into the hillside, inviting a quieter, reflective reading of the work. “Story of the National Arboretum Canberra” is a bold statement piece for a large wall (home, office or public space) and a meaningful artwork for anyone with a connection to Canberra and the Arboretum.
