Everything comes and goes

I am the son of an artist, and my painting career began in 1998.
My paintings draw inspiration from a broad range of sources. I’m interested in the mystery of our existence, my family, which includes two children, and the stories that life inevitably throws our way. I’ve never felt inclined to explain the meaning of a particular painting. When I look at a flower, I don’t need someone to tell me why it’s beautiful. I know it is from my own experience. That is how I feel about art as well. The viewer interprets the image with their knowledge and experiences and weaves in their own story. Creating art that will stand the test of time is my driving principle, rather than manufacturing a picture that will match your couch and cushions.

The majority of my paintings are unframed and will require a frame to hang. Choosing your framing allows you to highlight the image in a style that suits you. All artworks are professionally varnished and come with a certificate of authenticity.

I grew up in a house that smelled of oil paint, watching my father work without ever being taught. Thirty years on, my paintings stand on loose, accidental grounds, half accident, half intention, made somewhere in the middle where the paint and I meet. That middle is where the series takes its name: The Middle Country. My cockatoos and figures are all one thing, my family, painted over and over in a glowing landscape, with the conviction that real happiness comes from within.
