Artwork Description

Learning to Fly is a painting about the breathtaking, terrifying, exhilarating moment before you trust yourself completely. A painting for anyone standing at the edge of something they've always wanted to do, gathering the last of their courage to begin.

Learning To Fly is an original acrylic painting on board, part of my ongoing Australian landscape work. It began the way these paintings always do, with a pour I don't control, then trees and cockatoos worked in loosely and fearlessly to the last mark. The blues and pinks run right through it, and two small figures stand at the top of the hill where the quiet is.

Painted on MDF board with artist quality acrylics. Ready to hang. Certificate of authenticity included. Ships worldwide direct from my studio in Brisbane, Australia.

Artist Bio

I grew up in a house that smelled of oil paint, watching my father work without ever being taught. Thirty years on, my paintings stand on loose, accidental grounds, half accident, half intention, made somewhere in the middle where the paint and I meet. That middle is where the series takes its name: The Middle Country. My cockatoos and figures are all one thing, my family, painted over and over in a glowing landscape, with the conviction that real happiness comes from within. Painting full time since 1998, Brisbane, Australia.
