Somewhere along the way, we each carry the quiet hope of finding our way back to where we belong.
This is one of my Middle Country paintings, the cockatoo and outback series at the centre of my art. It comes from a poured ground, half accident and half intention, colour left to find its own shape before I meet it, and out of it rose a whole small world, a homestead on the high green ground, cockatoos filling the trees, a figure cycling the long road back with the deep blue of everywhere else still swirling below.
I keep returning to the idea that we live always somewhere in the middle, never fully arrived, never fully gone. This one holds the sweetest part of that, the stretch of road where home is finally in sight.
