Artwork Description

Oil on linen, ready to hang.

Signed on the front.

This is from a series of portraits I painted for an exhibition called 'The People of the School', a series of portraits of adults and children who were part of a remote Aboriginal school community I used to visit in my work as a teacher educator. This image was from the annual book week where the kids would throw themselves into dressing up as characters from books and films. Here they are sitting in assembly and I loved the contrast between the two fellow's costumes and the repetition in the profile positions and focus. It makes me wonder what Dracula and the clown would do if they met in real life . . .
