This is from a series of portraits I painted for an exhibition called 'The People of the School', a series of portraits of adults and children who were part of a remote Aboriginal school community I used to visit in my work as a teacher educator. This image is from the Transition/Reception class where the girls were working on handwriting. I wanted to capture the different approaches to the task of the two girls with only glimpses of information in their hands and postures as the standing child helps the the girl in pink with her writing.
