This large still life was part of a series I painted for a joint exhibition titled 'What lies beneath' that explored the images and ideas we don't tend to contemplate in the day to day busy-ness of our lives. I wanted the simple lines and quiet colours to soften the 'momento mori' contemplation it invites. I still see a real sense of this ram's strong and confident character in his 'bare bones'.
