The Paladar closed some years ago and the shop was occupied by Miss Green’s Beans coffee which has also closed. In my imagination it was a place to Tango. When Carlos Gardel, the famous Argentinian tango singer, died in a plane crash in 1935, mourners filled the streets of Buenos Aires for his funeral and the whole of Argentina was flooded with tears.

I’m an artist and a member of Urban Sketchers Brisbane with a 50 year design background in architecture, urban design, landscape architecture and graphics. My output consists primarily of sketches and hybrid drawings [digitally edited and assembled] which depict local street views. Between 2018 and 2025, I’ve been a finalist and prize winner in a number of Brisbane, Ipswich and Grafton regional art awards as well as ArchiGraphicArts [Moscow]; winning a first prize in drawing at this year’s Brisbane EKKA. I have been invited to exhibit my work at the Venice Architecture Biennale but can’t afford the starting price. My sketches are included in the World Of Urban Sketching by Stephanie Bower published in the United States in late 2022. In 2024 I attended AsiaLink Sketchwalk Penang as an invited urban sketching demonstrator. Aside from hand drawing which is a great pleasure, much of my work is an exploration of the meeting of hand and computer ... the meeting of craft and industrial process. I try to bring a sense of art and poetry to whatever I do. AI 2025 DEC.
