Artwork Description

Located at 2 Enoggera Tce Red Hill, Brisbane AUS. Built in 1920 as a cinema. Converted to a sound lounge in 1964. Converted to a skating rink in 1965. Burnt out by an arsonist on Boxing Day 2002. Added to the heritage register in 2016. Redeveloped as a cinema in late 2018.

Sketched in Nov 2017 with Urban Sketchers Brisbane, after which I added a photo of the Coca Cola signage that I’d taken some ten years earlier. The first of the attached photos was taken on sketch day and the second photo was taken during the recent redevelopment.

Artist Bio

I’m an artist and a member of Urban Sketchers Brisbane with a 50 year design background in architecture, urban design, landscape architecture and graphics. My output consists primarily of sketches and hybrid drawings [digitally edited and assembled] which depict local street views. Between 2018 and 2025, I’ve been a finalist and prize winner in a number of Brisbane, Ipswich and Grafton regional art awards as well as ArchiGraphicArts [Moscow]; winning a first prize in drawing at this year’s Brisbane EKKA. I have been invited to exhibit my work at the Venice Architecture Biennale but can’t afford the starting price. My sketches are included in the World Of Urban Sketching by Stephanie Bower published in the United States in late 2022. In 2024 I attended AsiaLink Sketchwalk Penang as an invited urban sketching demonstrator. Aside from hand drawing which is a great pleasure, much of my work is an exploration of the meeting of hand and computer ... the meeting of craft and industrial process. I try to bring a sense of art and poetry to whatever I do. AI 2025 DEC.
