Artwork Description

A view of the back of an old house in Indooroopilly, Brisbane AUS. The original house on the street side was probably built in the early 1900’s while the rear addition was probably built in the 1950s or 1960s. The rear materials are typical of the era … flat asbestos cement wall sheeting with cover strips, glass louvre windows and exposed cast iron plumbing. The scene comes complete with a dead mango tree which was a common Brisbane garden tree in the early and mid 1900s. The drawing has a pleasant Japanese ambience.

Artist Bio

I’m an artist and a member of Urban Sketchers Brisbane with a 50 year design background in architecture, urban design, landscape architecture and graphics. My output consists primarily of sketches and hybrid drawings [digitally edited and assembled] which depict local street views. Between 2018 and 2025, I’ve been a finalist and prize winner in a number of Brisbane, Ipswich and Grafton regional art awards as well as ArchiGraphicArts [Moscow]; winning a first prize in drawing at this year’s Brisbane EKKA. I have been invited to exhibit my work at the Venice Architecture Biennale but can’t afford the starting price. My sketches are included in the World Of Urban Sketching by Stephanie Bower published in the United States in late 2022. In 2024 I attended AsiaLink Sketchwalk Penang as an invited urban sketching demonstrator. Aside from hand drawing which is a great pleasure, much of my work is an exploration of the meeting of hand and computer ... the meeting of craft and industrial process. I try to bring a sense of art and poetry to whatever I do. AI 2025 DEC.
