Artwork Description

A sketch done first with Urban Sketchers Brisbane on a chilly morning in August under a beautiful clear blue sky, then remade in the studio. The building materials are a common dark buff brick and weathered unpainted cement render which were typical materials of the era. The side façade, with its’ lovely brick detailing, looks over a narrow lane which services the hotel on the neighbouring property.

Artist Bio

I’m an artist and a member of Urban Sketchers Brisbane with a 50 year design background in architecture, urban design, landscape architecture and graphics. My output consists primarily of sketches and hybrid drawings [digitally edited and assembled] which depict local street views. Between 2018 and 2025, I’ve been a finalist and prize winner in a number of Brisbane, Ipswich and Grafton regional art awards as well as ArchiGraphicArts [Moscow]; winning a first prize in drawing at this year’s Brisbane EKKA. I have been invited to exhibit my work at the Venice Architecture Biennale but can’t afford the starting price. My sketches are included in the World Of Urban Sketching by Stephanie Bower published in the United States in late 2022. In 2024 I attended AsiaLink Sketchwalk Penang as an invited urban sketching demonstrator. Aside from hand drawing which is a great pleasure, much of my work is an exploration of the meeting of hand and computer ... the meeting of craft and industrial process. I try to bring a sense of art and poetry to whatever I do. AI 2025 DEC.
