Artwork Description

Brisbane Powerhouse.119 Lamington St New Farm. Brisbane AUS.
Built 1928. Refurbished 2000. Heritage listed.
_
The work was commissioned by international law firm Herbert Smith Freehills [via Kirsty Faichen], Brisbane AUS. The choice of subject was mine based on some suggestions from HSF. I love the Powerhouse and had photographed and sketched it on a number of previous occasions from about 2009 on. After accepting the commission, I returned to the Powerhouse to find the view I wanted and take photos. I was delighted to find out during the course of my investigations that HSF are a corporate partner of the Brisbane Powerhouse. The photos in the poster panels were taken by me around 2009 and the men in the fluoro jackets were extracted from my site photos.

Artist Bio

I’m an artist and a member of Urban Sketchers Brisbane with a 50 year design background in architecture, urban design, landscape architecture and graphics. My output consists primarily of sketches and hybrid drawings [digitally edited and assembled] which depict local street views. Between 2018 and 2025, I’ve been a finalist and prize winner in a number of Brisbane, Ipswich and Grafton regional art awards as well as ArchiGraphicArts [Moscow]; winning a first prize in drawing at this year’s Brisbane EKKA. I have been invited to exhibit my work at the Venice Architecture Biennale but can’t afford the starting price. My sketches are included in the World Of Urban Sketching by Stephanie Bower published in the United States in late 2022. In 2024 I attended AsiaLink Sketchwalk Penang as an invited urban sketching demonstrator. Aside from hand drawing which is a great pleasure, much of my work is an exploration of the meeting of hand and computer ... the meeting of craft and industrial process. I try to bring a sense of art and poetry to whatever I do. AI 2025 DEC.
