Water reflections at Wynnum along the mangroves create a surreal, labyrinth visual where the tangled roots are mirrored in the still or rippling water, often appearing as a shadowy maze. Everywhere is distorted and is defined by the light and shadow on the trees and their submerged root systems. My friend Rose took me here and I was in awe of the whole network of roots creating a sense of depth and tranquility. I could only imagine under a night sky the atmosphere created.
In the daytime certain areas looked like abstract colour fields which is what I was trying to create here.
