Artwork Description

In this painting I wanted to explore the significance of connection between individuals, their family and land by delving into the themes that are personal to me, particularly those of belonging and identity. The land, often inherited through generations, is a repository of memories, stories, and cultural heritage. It serves as a tangible link to one's roots, grounding them in a sense of place and history. This connection fosters a deep appreciation for the natural world, as the land provides sustenance, shelter, and a backdrop for shared experiences with loved ones. I have grown up in regional Western Australia and have been fortunate enough to experience and understand the profound link between land and family, which has shaped my sense of purpose in this world.
The sunsets over the Western Australian countryside hold a very special place in my heart. They offer me the opportunity for reflection and a chance to let go of my all the negative things that live in my head rent free and find solace in the promise of a new dawn. In this painting I used dramatic and vibrant hues, from warm oranges and reds to cooler purples and blues, which symbolise the spectrum of human emotions—joy, passion, tranquillity, and introspection.
I have travelled all over the world, have lived in many countries, but there is only one place I keep coming back to, only one place I call home. As I journey through life, I find comfort, strength and meaning in the timeless embrace of the land I belong to, where nature’s beauty reflects the ever-evolving emotional landscape of my heart.

This painting is completed on the highest quality cotton canvas and framed in natural Tasmanian Oak frame.

Artist Bio

I am a full-time painter living and working in the South West region of Western Australia.
My career in the creative industries spans over two decades, having worked as a fashion and jewellery designer before eventually discovering my passion for fine arts.
In my painting practice the subject is always the light. The light is what fills the artwork with luminosity and a genuine sense of atmosphere. With oil as my primary medium, I build the surfaces of my canvases and wood panels with many layers of paint and glazes. By using multiple layers, I create pieces that are brimming with depth and life.
While rooted in realism, my paintings emanate an enchanting atmosphere that transcends the boundaries of the ordinary. I enjoy manipulating colour and light to enhance the natural beauty of places and objects, infusing them with an otherworldly glow. Allowing the reality and enchantment to co-exist seamlessly is what makes the painting process so magical.
My passion, creativity and imagination have no limits, this is why my art constantly evolves. Afterall, art is a lifetime of learning, experimenting and exploring. As the saying goes, “if you are not growing, you are dying.”
