Although I draw my influences primarily from the Australia's beauty and scale, my landscape paintings are not always derived from specific locations, but are rather suggested fragments of recollection, glimpses of memory. I find great pleasure in painting restful places found in the natural landscape such as forests, horizons, clouds and waterscapes.
Finding and capturing the magical unbelievability of a place and making it seem real in paint is of paramount importance. Each artwork serves as a silent testament to the profound beauty found in isolation. The scenes depicted convey a sense of tranquil loneliness, inviting the viewer to immerse themselves in the contemplative ambiance of solitude. For me, a lone tree, a house, or a person amidst the vast landscape can often be a symbol of singular strength and fortitude. The best possible outcome of the often long and solitary effort invested into the process of a painting is when someone else recognises or is touched by that emotion, mood, or that fleeing instant of something beyond.
