Did you know I paint minis before committing the painting to a larger canvas? Odyssey (Mini) by Amanda Cameron is one of a series called 'Swimmer'. This series explores the interaction and connection between water, light and form. At the same time, the main focus is the quest for refuge, quietness and escapism. These paintings juxtapose the lone swimmer and a few minutes of introspection when alone in deep water against the fear of the unknown. The constant struggle between hyper-realism and having a painterly quality to my work is a conflict I always try to balance; therefore, thick paint, abstraction and evident brush strokes are present when viewed while still retaining a sense of realism.
