Today I was sitting near the little doll she once owned that now lives in my entryway, looking over at this painting,
My Nan always reminded me of a tiny garden fairy. Soft, gentle, a little quirky… shuffling around with this sweet pixie-like energy that made everything feel lighter.
Without even realising it, I painted little pieces of her into this work. The daisies especially ,her favourite flower and one of mine too.
Mavis also means “songbird,” which feels so fitting with her owl guide nearby and a tiny hummingbird whispering in her ear.
I love how art can do this sometimes… reveal someone to you without planning it. This piece came together slowly and naturally, and only now do I realise who she was representing all along.
I think our grandparents can stay with us in the loveliest little ways ...through certain flowers, familiar objects, gentle memories, and the warmth they leave behind in a home.
I hope Mavis brings a little of that warmth into your heart too.
