Artwork Description

An early summer morning, along a stretch of the Torrens River. The main building is The Blackmore Club, the smaller the old Water Police building. Who would have thought that there were once water police along the Torrens River?
The work is made using artist quality ink, acrylic paint and gesso. The support is Magnani paper. For what it's worth, the building colour should be terracotta- it looks accurate on my computer, but really alarmingly orange on my iPad. Zoom in for details.

Artist Bio

Andrew is an Adelaide Hills resident who primarily draws landscapes, but also interiors and still lifes. He works in the en plein air tradition (outdoors), and is always entertained by the side of the road chats he has with passersby who wonder what he's doing. Among other things, he has been mistaken for a stalker, a burglar, and an inspector from the water board.

Andrew graduated from North Adelaide School of Art in 1998, and has exhibited since winning the Novice Section of the Balaklava Art Prize in 1994. He has a long association with the Hahndorf Academy, winning numerous prizes, including the Heysen Prize for landscape in 1999 and more recently was Highly Commended in the Adelaide Hills Landscape Art Prize. He was also pleased to be invited to exhibit in the 2019 Kedumba Drawing Award.

He is primarily concerned with line, and has been known to spend hours constructing a drawing as a background for a nice shaped line.

Studio visits can be arranged if you’d like a better look at his work.
