"The Beehive" is an eclectic colourful, abstract painting filled with intricate shapes and patterns, adorned with a few abstract bees. Perfect for a children's bedroom, to stir and inspire the imagination. This painting is a joyous celebration of The Beehive; of life, activity and community. A visual integration of the concepts of Order and Chaos.
As a child bees were a source of panic and chaos to me. I remember being 5 and being stung, and the chaos that ensued was mimicked by other children and adults too - who screamed with panic at the sound of a Bee, swiping wildly around, and frantically running away.
Now, the sound of a bee, reminds me of something totally different. I think of the hundreds of bees, who go out into the world to collect food for the colony. Individuals, working together for the collective. Now the beehive and its bees, beautifully represents: community, discipline, structure and order.
My experience of bees ties up the themes of Chaos and Order - a dualism now bound together into one integrated and intelligent expression of nature's wisdom.
Painted with matisse flow acrylic paints on thick cotton canvas, triple satin varnished.
