Artwork Description

"Light from the Window" delicately captures a moment suspended between shadow and warm sunlight, offering a serene journey through hues and emotions on a summer day.

A personal experience inspired this artwork. There was a specific afternoon when the sun gently spilled through my window, segmenting the room into pockets of light and shadow, that whispered the nascent idea of this piece to me. It was a dialogue of contrast and harmony, a narrative where light and shadow define and uplift each other.

The oil medium allows the textures and colors to speak with subtle intensity - from the delicate petals of the flowers to the absorbing darkness of the shadow, each element has been curated to evoke a balanced duality.
While a literal depiction, the tableau also seeks to mirror the contrasting motifs of life, encapsulating moments of joy and introspection. While traversing through the light and shadow of the piece, I hope viewers find fragments of their own stories, experiences, and emotions echoed within it. May it invite them to pause, to lose themselves within the visual narrative, and perhaps, find a calm.

Artist Bio

Anna Novick is a professional painting artist currently based in California, USA. She holds a Master of Fine Arts degree from the prestigious Moscow State Academic Art Institute named after V.I. Surikov. Her artistic work explores the intricate relationships between tone, light, color, and form, with a strong emphasis on composition. A key feature of her style is the use of chiaroscuro, which infuses her paintings with depth and contrast. Whether creating landscapes, still lifes, or genre scenes, Anna’s artistic challenge lies in harmonizing individual elements to convey their interconnectedness, resulting in a balanced and evocative whole.

Anna’s journey as an artist is deeply rooted in her academic training and shaped by her admiration for artists who capture life and light with realism and emotional resonance. She draws significant inspiration from renowned painters such as Arcady Plastov, Ilya Repin, Konstantin Korovin, Vasily Surikov, and Joaquín Sorolla. Additionally, the mastery of light seen in the works of John Singer Sargent continues to influence her exploration of oil painting and watercolor.

These influential artists have helped Anna develop her unique approach, blending realism with impressionistic touches and balancing technical precision with emotional depth. Her work tells stories that reflect the profound beauty of nature, the human spirit, and the interplay between knowledge and feeling.
