This giant gum tree lives in one of the back paddocks of our farm. Usually it would be surrounded by more trees, bush and scrub, a bit of grass and have more leaves on its branches. I wanted to paint it alone in a dry paddock to reflect the very dry years we have had on the farm. The new foliage on the leaves represents hope that normal rainfall will return. They are a beautiful strong tree so I wanted a strong contrast between it and the background.
