I am a genre artist using oil paints as a medium. As I grew up in Central Victoria in the gold mining town of Bendigo, I have a great love of red bricks, old buildings, galvanised iron and grass. Yes, grass. I love the interplay between a thread of grass against an old piece of wood, a clump of red bricks, or snuggled into the rich earth.
I am largely self taught though studied for some years with the great mural artist John Lawry. My artist heros include the Englishman Lawrence Lowry, the Americans Edward Hopper and Andrew Wyeth and going back so long in time to the Dutch and Flemish masters who have taught us so much.
I see art and specifically painting as an interactive enterprise. I love to talk art with anyone. I love to pass on any hints I have learnt. With two friends I taught painting for 6 years as a volunteer in a nursing home and count this as one of the most rewarding experiences I have had.
I am now enthusiastically engaged in social media. I have my own website https://www.annenewman.studio/ and encourage viewers to visit it to enjoy the way I have presented the images of my paintings in various "gallery views" with the help of AI. There is also the opportunity to make comments and join in discussions.
I have also been the Editor in Charige of the free art blog AnArt4Life which produced daily posts for over 7 years . With my wonderful we covered all things to do with art: artists, history of paintings, patrons, places and galleries to visit- everything to keep us all informed about the wonderful world or art.
Most of my paintings are available as prints.
Make art part of your daily life.
