Sunburst

The beautiful birds of Australia have inhabited my paintings for many years. The vibrant colours and rich accents in the feathers catch my eye and I remain inspired to capture the colours on canvas. In my new collection of original contemporary acrylic paintings, the bird rendering stays true to the subject while the setting is surreal or abstract. The juxtaposition of realistic birds and the geometric shapes and bold colours is suggestive of the changing connection between humans and nature. The birds express freedom and courage as they navigate a changing world

April White began her artistic journey while growing up in London, Ontario, Canada. After completing formal studies in Fine Art, specialising in drawing, at York University in Toronto, she worked as a graphic designer for a few years while planning to pursue her dream of a life of art and travel. The following ten years were spent backpacking across the world, experiencing different cultures, exploring new landscapes and recording her observations and experiences with pencils and paint. Travels led to the west and east coasts of Canada, parts of Europe, Southeast Asia and Australia. Now with over ten years of full-time studio work in Newtown, April’s art is being recognised with recent art awards in Australia and in collections across Australia and Canada.
