Oil on canvas, stretched and ready to hang.
Signed on the front.
This artwork portrays a young African lady carrying her baby and the fruit from her harvest. This painting is particularly special to me and carries sentimental value due to my South African heritage. Growing up, this was an image I would often see- an African mother carrying her baby wrapped to her body, all while balancing baskets on her head. These women would often walk for miles to get back home. Truly, these women have qualities of strength and endurance, which I wanted to portray in my artwork.
Please note, the background of the artwork is light blue, which the photo does not capture.
About The Collection:
The visual element of texture in art evokes an array of emotions for each individual. The 3 dimensional nature of an artwork provides an interesting viewing experience, especially as the moving light of day casts different shadows at every hour. With texture, the artwork comes to life through the bold strokes of each colour. The technique of using a palette knife to thickly apply paint is called ‘Impasto’. This technique creates the sense that the paint is coming out of the canvas.
