I have always been drawn to traditional and classical art styles, and when I did a Life Drawing workshop with a nude model, I knew what I wanted to master. The human form is the ultimate in beauty and design, and the greatest challenge for an artist to capture on canvas. Accurately portraying the beauty of the face, hands and feet is particularly rewarding for me. Each painting is a unique adventure for me as I explore new and different colour combinations and techniques.
This model presented even more challenges, with muscle tone and unusual lighting, which inspired me to use a more unusual combination of colours to enhance the subject. The background colours are a blend of deep yellow and purplish red, appearing like copper. The dramatic contrasts of the body colours stand out, and will create a striking feature on a plain wall.
