One of the joys of painting is in attempting to reach out to people and have them enjoy that
which has grabbed you in the first place. This can be a flash of colour,
odd angles of buildings, or the sheer beauty of boats sitting motionless on still water.

Colour is undoubtedly the most emotionally powerful tool in the artist's paint box, and I
don't hesitate to apply it strongly wherever it is needed.

Although I frequently work plein-air, I do not attempt to copy nature too closely, but
use the visual experience to propel me to the next level in the studio. The great Australian
painter Lloyd Rees once said, 'Art should not be a copy of nature, but a celebration of it.'
