" What Lies Beneath " series is part of my larger body of works I dedicate to the Noosa River Everglades. Noosa River forms part of a unique biosphere and its tannin rich protected waters connect us to an extraordinary magical world.
Feeling the power and the fragility of Nature around me induces a sense of sacred which translates in an alternate reality. By entering imagination and calm, stillness and peace are the destination. My works on paper echo this spiritual journey into such incomparable places. Each mark is a shard of light that will enlighten your wall with a unique mix of sensuality and calligraphic elegance.
Using incised mark making enables me to channel these emotions. A photo is a direct perception of a moment; a frozen representational image in time and space. Printing it on art paper allows me to resonate with this reality while at the same time opening the image to another dimension. The carving action is the artistic gesture that singularises the print. Thousands of white marks slowly carved out of the print bring this other reality, creating something which was not already there with immediate and direct perception.
Each artwork is a unique original work of art on professional cotton watercolour paper. This series comes already ready to hang and framed in transparent Perspex. The dimensions given are of the Perspex frame size.

Artist Bio
French born Australian artist, Beatrice is creating poetic images in her studio tucked in the Noosa hinterland. From a previous engineering career as a geophysicist working for a large international corporation she decided to release her inner creative voice and call Australia home. Starting a decade ago, her practice is twofold. She paints large aerial views of our planet to the point of abstraction using large gestural and wet on wet techniques of mixed media.
The other side of her practice is to hand carve in her unique way her own original images of the Australian nature she resonates with using a detailed meditative precision. Carving lines and making marks in a subtractive, erosive motion on rag paper and aluminium, Beatrice opens up the narration and the poesy of each of her original pieces. Her language refers to a wide range of universal marks found on topographic maps, tattoos, embroidery, lines and dot painting, lino carving techniques and more. With those irreversible unique mark makings, Beatrice releases the raw surface from the ink to weave the stories captured into the images. Each of those marks is a new shard of light. She bridges the digital with the artist manual touch in a unique way. Her artworks are all originals.
