Few places in the world beat the west of Ireland for moody natural landscapes! I painted this after visiting the beautiful Keem Bay on Achill Island in County Mayo. You might also recognise this little hut from the recent Oscar nominated film Banshees of Inisherin.

An oil painting of orange and pink poppy flowers in a warm glass vase on canvas

This is a painting of the first-to-bloom nasturtium flowers I grew from seed. I love their unruliness and the green and orange colour combination. I also wanted to capture the flowers’ shadows and compliment their wild, free growth with plenty of texture.

Poppies have a wild, unruly nature to them which has always captivated me; their petals are like tissue paper, soft and ephemeral and unique in each flower.

This painting is an exploration of colour and texture, and hopefully a pretty reminder to always bloom wildy, like poppies do in spring.
