When painting animals, it's difficult not to form a connection with the piece. That's something I love about painting portraits: getting to step back from the easel and see the accumulation of dozens of hours, thousands of brush strokes and many tubes of paint embodied; a real creature, a soul on the canvas.
I created this artwork using oil paint on quality stretched cotton canvas measuring 20"h x 30"w x 1.5"d.
I referenced a photograph taken by my friend Matt Holland on a farm in New Zealand.
