Painted from life, this is an oil study of the backside an abelone shell. I have attemped to break from my traditional photorealistic style, an opt for a looser, but still realistic approach.

Artist Bio
Born and raised in the States where I studied studio art, I’ve spent the last 19 years overseas in London, Melbourne, Singapore, Darwin, and Berlin. Back in Melbourne for six years now—with Australian citizenship—I’m painting in the city that feels like home while working part time as graphic designer and pursuing other artistic practices in my spare time.
I explore both portraiture and still life, though I consider myself predominately a portrait artist and am at the front end of what feels like a life-long relationship with self-portraiture. I’ve been a finalist and semi-finalist in several painting prizes including the Archibald Prize in 2025.
