This painting was a finalist in the Henry Jones Art Award 2022.
There is an absence of movement; my gaze is greeted by absolute stillness as I stare out across the Tamar Island wetlands. The lack of sound is occasionally broken by the call of a native bird that inhabits the region. It is hard to look at this landscape without feeling the impact of its presence; I experience moments of wonderment and a profound sense of connection to place.
Through my arts practice I seek to capture the moody beauty that Tasmania offers for many months of the year. The cold winter can feel prolonged, but the quintessential appeal of nature brings back a sense of calmness and longing.
