Artwork Description

"Capital" is a captivating mixed-media collage on wood panel, evoking the turbulence of economic history. The aged, sepia-toned background is layered with authentic pages from the 1932 New York Times financial section, featuring stock market charts, earnings reports, and headlines that reflect the era's market volatility. At the center, concentric rings form a mesmerizing bullseye motif, meticulously assembled from shredded and overlapped fragments of vintage German Reichsmarks in earthy tones and American dollar bills in faded greens, symbolizing the interplay of global currencies during a time of crisis. The composition is divided by subtle cross-like seams, adding to its textured, distressed aesthetic that blends decay with deliberate artistry.

Artist Bio

Bryan Scariano (°1984, NY) is a self-taught artist who creates paintings and mixed media artworks. By applying abstraction, Scariano creates intense personal moments masterfully created by means of rules and omissions, acceptance and refusal, luring the viewer round and round in circles. His paintings at times reference recognizable forms through multiple layers. The results are deconstructed to the extent that meaning is shifted, and possible interpretation becomes multifaceted. Bryan Scariano currently lives and works in Florida.
