Attitude captures a moment of quiet defiance and presence. The black cockatoo, with its raised crest and direct gaze, becomes more than a subject—it is a personality. I was drawn to the expressive potential of this bird: its intelligence, its wariness, and its unmistakable sense of character.
Working in watercolour allowed me to balance control with spontaneity. Loose, fluid washes create the softness of feather and atmosphere, while layered detail brings focus to the eye and crest—where the bird’s “attitude” truly resides. The interplay of cool blues, greys, and muted earth tones reflects both strength and subtlety. The splashes and speckled textures are intentional, echoing natural markings while also introducing an element of unpredictability. This mirrors the essence of wildlife itself—never entirely still, never entirely knowable.
