In Katherine Gorge 4, I explore the interplay of light, colour, and geological form within the dramatic landscape of Katherine Gorge. Using transparent watercolour, I sought to capture both the physical presence of the ancient sandstone cliffs and the fleeting qualities of atmosphere reflected in the still water below.
The painting is built through layered washes that allow colour to flow and merge naturally, echoing the processes of erosion, weathering, and time that have shaped the gorge itself. Warm earth tones contrast with cool blues and violets, creating a visual dialogue between sunlight and shadow while emphasizing the sculptural character of the rock formations.
Rather than focusing on detailed representation, I have aimed to convey a sense of place and emotional response.
