This painting explores childhood as a state of absorbed presence—quiet, tactile, and instinctive. The child is wholly engaged with sand, water, and simple tools. Through loose brushwork and visible paint texture, I aim to mirror the physicality of play itself—hands digging, sand shifting, waves advancing and receding. The figure is softly rendered and colour is used sparingly but deliberately, with blues and ochres evoking warmth, salt air, and memory. This work reflects an interest in fleeting moments that often go unnoticed, yet form the foundation of lived experience. By painting from memory rather than exact detail, I seek to capture the feeling of being young at the edge of the sea: grounded, curious, and entirely present.
