Carolyn's paintings express a deep relationship with the natural world, referencing influences from the nineteenth century tonalist, symbolist and 'romantic realist' movements. She works mostly with a limited, tonal palette from locations that are significant to her through memory and lived experience. The artist is also drawn to early modernist styles that convey enigmatic and expressive mood through semi-abstracted imagery. Regardless of the genre or style, Carolyn seeks to depict the sublime and sensory through her art.
Carolyn has held solo and group exhibitions and worked as artist in residence at The Old Auction House, Kyneton in 2018. The artist studied and taught art history at the University of Melbourne and works both as a painter and photographer from her own studio in the Macedon Ranges, Victoria.
