Artwork Description

Felix by Cassie Holmes

This piece is part of my recent Feathery February collection. For this collection I painted Australian birds from the top 10 Australian birds of 2023. The Tawny Frogmouth came in at number two.

Tawny Frogmouths are often confused with owls and can be found throughout Australia. Tawny Frogmouths aren’t always easy to spot because of their camouflage but when you do see one, they rarely seem bothered by us watching them. Often, they just simply sit there and stare back at us. Even though Tawny Frogmouths are a silver-grey colour, there is still something special about these birds.

I painted a pair of each bird because I like that they have a friend. These Frogmouths are so cute with their textured feathers and friendly look about them. I love the simple plain colour of them with the beautiful pastel green background. I use thick oil paint and palette knives to create the texture, including adding it in the background of my pieces.

This piece is on a 20cm x 20cm cradled wood panel, which is 3.8cm wide, allowing you to stand it up on a shelf. It also comes with wire ready to hang. It is unframed but the sides are painted in a light grey so you can have more than one from the set if you like and they will all match. This piece will look lovely hanging on a wall, particularly with its partner, or standing on a shelf or bench.

Artist Bio

Hi, I'm Cassie, the creative force behind the gorgeous art you’ll find here. I’m a Brisbane-based artist and my passion lies in creating colourful and cheerful art that will make you smile. My desire is to fill your home with joy and colour.

I love incorporating colour and texture to express movement and freedom, to evoke a feeling of joy and of being uplifted. I combine what I see in nature with what I feel in my heart to produce art that brings pure joy to the world.

I’ve always been creative and loved making things, and have tried so many different creative outlets. But I’ve fallen in love with painting, using oil paints, and creating gorgeous texture with both palette knives and brushes. It is so much fun, I am in my happy place when I’m painting. Plus I adore colour!
