I started creating art to sell in the late 1980s during which time I attended the North Adelaide school of fine art where I studied painting and printmaking.
Since 2010 I’ve been building a presence online with a focus on portraiture, painting both animal and people subjects.
Today I'm interested in people and nature, especially the native flora and fauna species that co-habitat with me. I'm curious about the way in which introduced and domesticated animals and plants, like pigeons, dogs, chickens, fruits and flowering plants, integrate with the native species, and how the natives deal with them too. My paintings are an observation of all those wonderful creatures, humans, animals and plants that exist not far from my own door and are part of my everyday life, and sometimes, when they are found in unexpected places, I make little studies of them simply to explore the art materials I have on hand.
I'm also interested in recycling, if I can re-use a beautiful old frame, or a surface that's suitable I will make it into a work of art - I also seek to paint on surfaces that are made from recycled materials where possible.
Thankyou for popping in and having a look,
Sincerely,
Cat Leonard
