Artwork Description

I'm painting the 100 heads art challenge during 2024, and this painting of JRR Tolkien is no 16.
Asked if I “have inspiration to paint older people…”
“Just to see what you would make of it. Faces that have seen things, that have lived through all kinds of stuff...”
As I was thinking about who to paint it occurred to me that there’s a few kinds of old…like old as in “days gone by” kind of old, people from the past at whatever age their image was captured, and as in years, like older in their life - having lived through many years with many stories to tell, and so any combination of the two would work.
I thought I’d start the ball rolling with my favourite author, J.R.R Tolkien in his older years…there’s some great pics of him as his younger self too, but I’ll leave that for another day

Artist Bio

PROFILE:
I attended the North Adelaide school of fine art in the late 1980s, and from then on I started creating art to sell. With a focus on printmaking, painting and textiles, I built up my first small art business. Several businesses later I settled on my current art-business model. My body of work includes painting for exhibitions, commissioned paintings, portraits and Illustrations, showcasing and selling my work in shops and on-line, teaching workshops and tutoring painting in various venues around Adelaide.

SKILLS:
Painting. Illustrating. Portraiture. Large scale murals. Workshop presenter. Art tutor. Blogger. Mentoring.

PRACTICE:
As an artist, I take seriously the development of my own unique style through my practice of painting and creating art everyday. I seek to present an appealing balance between chaos and order in my paintings, and this best reflects who I am as a person living in the world.

I'm also interested in recycling, if I can re-use a beautiful old frame, or a surface that's suitable I will make it into a work of art - I also seek to paint on surfaces that are made from recycled materials where possible.

Thankyou for popping in and having a look,
Sincerely,
Cat Leonard
