ABOUT THE WORK: “An Inch of Ocean” by Cat Tesla is part of Tesla’s Feeling Good Series. Gestural marks, line, shape, color, this series evokes joy & free expression. “As a glass half-full type of person, my abstract series of paintings expresses my joy and gratitude for each and every day.” During the pandemic of 2020, I used painting as a way to anchor myself and remain positive and hopeful that life would eventually get better. I knew one day we would all be feeling good again.

Tesla begins with an automatic drawing in graphite, translucent layers are applied, followed by more mark making & more layers. Cat Tesla uses various mediums to build up the surface, exploring spontaneous mark making and subtle forms.

This is an original, one-of-a-kind painting on 1.5" thick gallery wrapped canvas done in oil, acrylic, graphite and oil stick. The painting is varnished with a satin varnish to protect from dirt and light. The edges of the canvas are light grey, and the painting is wired and ready to hang. This painting is framed in a brushed silver floater frame. Signed by the artist on front and back. Cat Tesla Artist.

ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Cat Tesla is a contemporary abstract artist currently living and working in North Port, FL. A native of St. Louis, Missouri, Cat called Atlanta home for 32 years where she served on faculty at Emory University in the Department of Human Genetics (she recently moved to sunny Florida). Defying popular stereotypes of right-brained and left-brained people, Cat has worked as both an artist and a scientist. With degrees in biology, human genetics and graphic design, Tesla eventually traded genetics clinic for art studio. Over the past 26 years, Cat Tesla has exhibited both nationally and internationally.
