Artwork Description

This surreal, playful oil painting captures the irresistible allure of chocolate as it drips and spreads across the surface of a newspaper. Blurring the lines between the everyday and the indulgent, it’s a witty twist on still life — deliciously unexpected and impossible to ignore. Painted with smooth texture and a contemporary edge, this artwork brings a sense of whimsy and fun to any space, while still offering that timeless richness of oil on canvas.

Artist Bio

Catherine Wallace is an accomplished artist celebrated for her meticulous realism and masterful use of a limited palette. By carefully mixing her chosen colours, she creates a harmonious and cohesive aesthetic that resonates throughout her work.

Creativity has always been in Catherine's DNA. As the former owner of Sticky Fingers Cake Decorating on Australia’s Gold Coast, she gained recognition for her exceptional three-dimensional cake sculpting and decorating skills. After selling her business, Catherine sought a new creative outlet and found her true passion in art. Although she experimented with various mediums, oils eventually became her medium of choice, allowing her to express landscapes, portraits, and still life in a way that feels both timeless and contemporary.

Catherine's artistic journey is marked by several accolades, including First Place in the 2019 d'Arcy Doyle Art Awards for Still Life and a Highly Commended in the 2018 edition of the same awards.

Her current focus is on painting hands that tell a story and convey emotion, as well as capturing the flowers from her country garden.
