Artwork Description

Colourfield II is an original artwork by Charlotte De Pace

In this Colourfields series, Charlotte is inspired by colour theory and stylised forms from nature (such as aerial views of rural paddocks). She embraces a distinctive, abstract style, overlapping shapes and layering vibrant colours to achieve a sense of luminosity and equilibrium. Using archival colour pencil on wood board allows Charlotte to incorporate the natural grain and imperfections of the surface into the artwork creating textural elements that emerge on closer inspection and give added complexity and a sense of depth to the piece.

Colourfield II is hand-signed on the front and back and is ready to hang with wire attached. Please note, this artwork is UNFRAMED - careful attention has been paid to the sides of the board to ensure clean edges (see picture in gallery images) so it doesn't require framing but for an extra special finish, Charlotte recommends professional framing in a timber floating frame (such as the examples in the gallery images) and can be arranged through Bluethumb by selecting from the framing options..

Artist Bio

Charlotte’s artistic practice is driven by a desire to find and express a brighter side of life. Aware of the emotive power of colour and harmonious composition, she embraces a vibrant palette and finds inspiration in nature, distilling it to its purest forms to create abstract compositions. Rainbow arcs are a recurring symbol throughout her artwork, chosen for their association with hope and peace as well as their visual versatility to create interesting and unexpected forms. Through layering and juxtaposing rich, vivid colour, Charlotte gives strength and luminosity to overlapping shapes and shadows evoking a sense of harmony, simplicity and joy.

Art and art making have always been an integral part of Charlotte’s life. Following her university studies (Bachelor of Visual and Performing Arts, VCA, and Master of Art Curatorship, University of Melbourne), she enjoyed a career in exhibition management and curatorship. Over the last few years, she’s focussed on her own professional artistic practice drawing on her passion for colour and developing a distinctive abstract style.
