Artwork Description

I love to paint my local environment, and it is important to me that my paintings are immersive.......I want people to feel the elements.
When I paint it is an innate response to the environment.....especially the light.
"Back Waters " is an oil painting of Avoca Beach Lagoon.
It is the afternoon and the shadows are starting to lengthen. The group of trees on the shore are reflecting into the water, along with their shadows. Light is falling on the shore highlighting the trees trucks and patches of grass.
The water contains the reflections of the trees and large patches of yellow light falling onto it.....As the water is disturbed by the breeze the surface ripples and catches the light. The sun light skims the surface as if it was a skipping stone.

Artist Bio

Cheryl Willcox is an Australian oil painter known for her luminous, impressionistic paintings of lily ponds, coastal landscapes, and expressive florals. Based on the Central Coast of NSW, Cheryl draws daily inspiration from the rock shelves, ocean light, and abundant plant life surrounding her home.
A professionally trained artist and lifelong educator, Cheryl blends traditional realism with bold, intuitive brushwork. Her paintings are built in layers, capturing movement, energy, and the subtle shifts of colour and light that define the Australian landscape.
Cheryl’s work is deeply autobiographical — each painting holds a memory, a feeling, or a moment from her everyday life. Widely collected across Australia and internationally, her paintings offer a quiet, uplifting presence in the home, inviting viewers to pause, breathe, and reconnect with beauty.
