This was inspired by the many photos taken over the years of our hiking adventures in the high plains.
My husband and I were so mesmerised by the beautiful billy buttons and other everlasting flowers that we have a section of our garden with flowers of the high plains. Billy Buttons (Craspedia) are also known as “drumsticks” and are in the daisy family. They are a beautiful native Australian plant with a beautiful buttery yellow glow which I have tried to capture in this painting. I also love the rolling plains and distant ranges of the high country. When you walk or sit here you can hear the cicadas, the birds, the wind through the trees and grasses, the hum of busy bees … together bringing Bogong alive with nature’s symphony orchestra.
The colour yellow is often associated with fun, joy and energy … maybe that’s why I feel happy looking at them. I hope this painting brings you a sense of these feelings too!
