On top of the world

'On top of the world' is a stream of consciousness oil painting created in Cynthia Howard's figurative abstract style.

This painting was inspired by a previous painting titled 'Tilting Ocean' where a blue horizon tipped diagonally in the background. In this piece the blue horizon is translated into an ocean that literally tips, spilling water into the galaxy below.

Stream of consciousness creations do not start with a preconceived idea in mind. Instead, the composition and themes manifest line by line, shape by shape, colour by colour, each new visual motif responding to what was created the moment before.

Cynthia Howard is a contemporary artist working mostly in oil paints. Her concepts come from stream-of-consciousness and either manifest as the free-flowing lines in her colourful abstract figures, or as the surrealist undertones in her realistically painted compositions.
