I often incorporate multiple views in a single painting, sometimes views drawn from one place, sometimes from multiple places. Curators have said that this work is like walking through these places and having memories evoked. For me, walking is a deeply meaningful activity. It has always been so, whether alone for days in the mountains of the High Sierra, or the deep woods of New England. This painting includes views drawn from places in both the east and the west, shores, lakes, mountains, vernal pools, brooks, etc., all places where the water reflects the sky and the light radiates. I love paint, and let the paint speak in this painting, and all my work.
