Effortless, 2022

For me, there are a number of factors that combine to make a great painting. These include balance, contrast, colour, and other technical factors. However, my personal view is that the X-factor - The thing that makes a painting work, comes from doing just enough to achieve interest, without doing so much as to feel forced. This is easier said than done, as restraint in my work has only come with practice and experience. This painting is titled ''Effortless'', as it simply rolled out onto the blank canvas. The painting drove the composition and layout, and I was merely along for the ride.
