Artist Bio

I am a full-time artist working from my studio at Pebbly Beach in Port Douglas, a small township resting on the edge of the Great Barrier Reef. The landscape here — wild, salt-laden, and humming with life — shapes everything I create.

For many years I worked as a sculptor, but over the past five years my practice has shifted fully into painting. The change felt natural, as if the stories I wanted to tell were asking to flow through colour, texture, and gesture rather than form alone.

My creative process is deeply solitary. Most days you’ll find me in the studio painting intuitively, allowing images to reveal themselves rather than forcing them into existence. I’m always listening — to the whispers of Mother Nature, to the energy of animals, and to the quiet strength carried by women throughout time.

Animals are my greatest teachers. They hold an honesty and purity that I believe humanity often forgets. If I had one wish, it would be that we learn to honour Mother Nature and all her creatures with the respect they deserve. I see the world as a reflection of our inner selves, and my work aims to mirror that truth back to the viewer.

I paint primarily with acrylics, but I also weave in inks, charcoal and collage to build layers of emotion and story. Each piece is an invitation to reconnect — with the earth, with instinct, and with the strength that lives within us.

I am proud to be a featured artist on Bluethumb, and I share my ongoing creative journey on Instagram at @daniellepiat.
