Artwork Description

Based on the original collage and paint artwork on canvas. This image is based on a series of photos I took of my son standing in Lake Illawarra after a failed mid winter fishing trip. Both fishermen were clueless, so my son ended up drenched in the water as the sun set behind him over the Illawarra escarpment. I have created several artworks based on this day.

The colours and details on these prints are incredibly accurate and vibrant. It's pretty much identical to the original without all the collage layering and texture. This paper has a light texture and feels like an acrylic painting.

Paper size 55cm x 55cm. Print size 50cm x 50cm.
Small edition of just 10 made only, never to be printed again.

Thanks for checking it out. Cheers Darren

Artist Bio

Based near Wollongong on the NSW East Coast of Australia, Darren King is a multidisciplinary artist working across collage, printmaking, mixed media, and painting. Over the past five years, he has honed a distinctive visual language that merges traditional and contemporary techniques.

Trained in Fine Arts, cartooning, illustration, graphic design, and screen printing, King combines elements from each of these disciplines to create bold, textural, and visually engaging works. Since refocusing on original mixed media art in 2021, he has developed a particular passion for collage.

Working primarily with recycled and repurposed materials - including discarded magazines, junk mail, maps, paper bags, and vintage books—King transforms the everyday into vibrant, layered compositions. His art captures the beauty of the ordinary and evokes a playful nostalgia, celebrating the local, the joyous, the tasty or the long-forgotten.
